Join The Football Association (FA) and Justice for Gay Africans (JfGA) to discuss the challenges faced by LGBTI individuals from the BME community in participating in football.
This is an inclusive discussion to raise awareness about Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans- and Intersex (LGBTI) people in football, and sports more generally. Though steps have been taken towards curbing racism within football and in wider British society, for some, racism still shapes the homophobia s/he experiences.
The FA’s Opening Doors and Joining In–The FA Action Plan for including lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people in football 2012–2016, outlines actions points for kicking homophobia out of football, and this event will explore how to implement this Action Plan with attention to BME LGBTI communities.
